WHAT KIND OF WORK ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Here at Nervous Ghost Press, we are looking for work that speaks from the heart without hesitation. We want raw, uncensored, honest writing.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY WORK IS READY TO SUBMIT?

We know that you put in long hours and hard work into creating your submissions and we promise to work just as hard when we read them. We like to ask a few questions when thinking if our own work is ready for publication:
Is it a project piece? Does it do what I want? How do the poems fit together (if more than one)? Does the story progress in a way that I'm happy with? And that leads us to one of the most important questions: Are you happy with your work?
If you are happy with your work and there are very few (if any) grammatical errors, we want to read it.

WHO WILL READ MY SUBMISSION(S)?

Each submission will be read by a team of readers and editors led by artists, writers, and educators with graduate degrees in creative writing, literature, and other disciplines as well as industry professionals. We have also asked our non literary community members to sit on our reading team to offer their personal insights/ perspectives. 

All submissions will be given the delicate care and respect they deserve. 

DO YOU CHARGE A READING FEE?​

As an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit press, we do not charge reading fees for any submission, ever.

WHAT IS THE NERVOUS GHOST PRESS WORKSHOP SERIES, AND HOW CAN I SIGN UP?

The Nervous Ghost Press Workshop Series is a series of free workshops dedicated to promoting the arts. Workshops are led by industry professionals, artists, authors, and community members. For information, click here. 

HOW CAN I SUBMIT TO THE ANNUAL LITERARY JOURNAL?​

Submissions for The Waiting Room are open year-round.* Check out The Waiting Room​ page for more information and updates. 

*We may close submissions periodically when we are heavy into review, so we don't get overwhelmed. They will re-open as swiftly as possible.

DO YOU ACCEPT EMAIL OR SNAIL MAIL SUBMISSIONS?

Email and snail mail submissions will not be read. All submissions should be submitted via the submission portal on the submissions page during reading periods. Using this program allows us to read and respond in a timely and efficient manner. If you are unable, or do not have access to submit this way, let us know and we will work with you.

WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF MY WORK WAS ACCEPTED?

Due to the amount of submissions we receive, we may not be able to respond to every single submission. We will, however, try our best to respond within 3-6 months after the reading period ends.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO USE THE COMMUNITY ARTS WORKSPACE?

IS MY DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Short answer, yes. As a 501(c)(3), your gifts to us are usually tax deductible. If you are unsure, always speak with your tax professional and contact us before making any contribution. You may also find our Gift Acceptance Policy here.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GIVING THROUGH PAYPAL AND WITH PAYPAL GIVING FUND?

Giving through PayPal is similar to making a normal transaction as you would when purchasing goods and services. You have the option to cover the transaction fees and you will receive a generic PayPal receipt. You do not need a PayPal account using this method. Giving with PayPal Giving Fund requires you to have a PayPal account, and PayPal covers the transaction fees. You should also receive a special receipt with all important tax information.
